The HELIX team is led by Gavin Thomson.
He has experience of working in the heavy organic chemicals sector with ICI and then in plant biotechnology with Unilever. He also has extensive experience of working inside universities on research management and the European R&D programmes.
Gavin has nearly twenty years of “battle scars” from working with the EU programmes starting from before the first Framework programme. Many of the research institutions using him to advise on their projects have been doing so for more than ten years.
He has worked in detail on top ranked proposals for all the thematic programmes.
Successful projects have included
* the top ranked IP in Information Technology First call
* the top ranked IP in Life Sciences First Call
* the top ranked I3 under the Infrastructures programme
* Many successful NoE under each of the main specifc programmes, including the best NoE under Global Climate and Change
* A large number of STREPs across all the specific programmes
* 20% of the successful interdisciplinary RTNs
* the best Marie Curie Inter European Fellowship in the final call
